EXTREMELY engaging STEM Ecology Project where students Design An Animal Prosthetic! Super fun, interesting and eye-opening! Learn how scientific advancements and biomedical engineering are solving real problems by merging science and engineering. Students first see how prosthesis development for limb structures have improved people’s lives and animals as well! Includes videos with real life stories and solutions being developed. Next, they practice creating a prototype. Finally, they will use STEM-based thinking to design and build their animal prosthetic project! Be sure to get this project for your students!
Objective: Students will learn how prosthesis development for limb structures have improved people’s lives. The exploration focuses on prosthetic advancements for animals. Students will practice the concepts by making a mechanical hand before embarking on an engineering design and prototype of a prosthesis for an injured animal. This lesson is a unique project to wrap up or introduce a human body unit, structural functions in organisms and/or STEM project.
Science Concepts: Human and animal structural functions, scientific advancements, biomedical engineering
Connections and Skills: Make connections between animal and human structural functions; critical thinking through problem solving, design, and engineering; collaboration skills
